I taught Faith some simple signs when she was a baby. I highly recommend doing this with infants. I was surprised by the criticisim I got from people saying that it would delay her speech. She knew about a dozen signs by the time she was 12 mos. Of course the two she used most were "eat" and "more." And her speech development? She asked her first question at 14 mos and there hasn't been much silence since - she even talks in her sleep!
