SIDS - New Studies
The nation's largest group of pediatricians says the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, could be reduced with some simple measures.
The group says babies should be offered pacifiers at bedtime and they should sleep in the same room as their parents - but not in the same bed.
The measures are designed to prevent a deep sleep, which is a problem for infants prone to SIDS.
The recommendations are being released Monday in Chicago at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
SIDS remains the leading cause of US infant deaths, killing more than 2000 babies every year.
