The Garden School Tattler

Friday's Grandparents' Tea was a huge success. The tables were full of treats, the children were full of treats, and the room was filled with smiles. It was a pleasure.

Thanks to everyone who came and please accept an invitation to lunch anytime. We eat at 12:30 every day.

On to October. It seems it's going to be field trip month. We have postponed a few trips because we have so many very very young children. Sometimes it's best to fully acclimate a child before we go on a field trip. It can be a wild experience, and having six little guys all take off running is a nightmare. I remember taking Bill the first time on the bus. I thought he was going to have a heart attack. He buried his face in grandma until it was over. Now he loves the bus. Sometimes, high energy children are afraid of noise and afraid of motion.

I think we are going to try to do the orchard, the Stay Alive House, and Angel Mounds. If it's nice in November, we will try to take a hayride and go to the zoo.

Last summer we spent a fortune on trips. Trying to set a time to pay a single one year price is nearly impossible because no matter how well you plan, the cost always seems to be more. Tacking on extra fees mid stream seems wrong as well. We established June a long time ago, but it failed this summer. We ended up using every dime we had and some we didn't to finish out the summer. We are going to a pay as you go plan beginning now. Envelopes will be distributed for each field trip. The price of the bus and admission will be divided among those who come. People with field trip fees paid for last summer need to see me.

We are still looking for tiny $1.00 china tea sets. If you come across some, please tell Miss Judy.

Again, a special thanks to Hazel for all her work at the party.

And a special thanks to Miss Kelly for her photography.

I have to beg pardon here. I have a very old world mindset. When I think of the fine arts, I think of painting, drawing, music, dance, theatre, etc. I never think of the techno arts. Kelly is our techno artist, and she has taken this craft and raised it to an art. Her ability to work with machinery and have it respond is an outstanding achievement. I congratulate her.

This week is Fall Festival week. Please remember that children who spend their evenings out late are exhausted the next day. If you plan to take your child to the festival and stay out late, please inform teachers! The best plan for taking children to something like the Fall Festival is to pick them up early from school and get home by bedtime. It makes all the difference.

Report cards were ready on Friday, but because of the Tea, we have held them over to today.

SO the parents who paid the $250.00 yearly field trip fee last summer have to pay again?

Doesn't sound like it - - Judy said in her tattler that parents that paid the summer fee should see her.

Good, because we are maxed. Can't afford anymore and don't think it is fair if my child can't go. Plus, the paper that came home today said that children that are already paid for the annual fee don't have to pay for the field trip but that extra doesn't hurt. I wish I had the extra to give.
