The Garden School Tattler

Boy was it hot today!!
It was a very hectic day! It was a really nice blend of new kids and old kids. They all seemed happy to be back to school.

My class is remarkable. Mr. David stunned us with his ability to say each letter both upper and lower case. He counted clearly to 20. Nikoli won an alphabet game. Morgan got the handwriting award. And David won Bingo. Triston wins most improved writer. Camryn is our neatest, MJ was our first child done and did a free- puzzle.

We had spaghetti, bread and butter, a big Posey County, and some garden vegetables that we grew. The kids enjoyed the cucumber, the green pepper and dip and the carrots and tomatoes.

I bought a waffles iron yesterday and we had our first waffles this morning. There are lots of things to be done with waffles, and believe me we will be experimenting. A zucchini waffle with cinnamon syrup sounds good. Perhaps cheese waffles as bread for lunch or applesauce waffles for snack with ice cream or cornbread waffles with honey butter.

We are doing a theme of "self" this week and asking "Who am I?" It's important for parents to keep up with what the child is doing in school. Don't forget to ask. The problem parents come across is this: "What did you do in school, today?" The answer is always, "Nothing."

Instead of asking "What...," ask "Did you draw today?" or "Did you have eel soup for lunch?" or "I bet I can guess what you did today..." and then guess silly stuff, and your child will respond much better. It will encourage him to remember and this is part of what he is learning.

It was too hot to go out for more than 1/2 an hour. We played indoors.

Rhyme with your child. Most kids don't know what it means to rhyme. We are working on thinking while we sing, and rhyming.

It's been a good launch, now if the weather would cooperate...

The first thing Abby said to me today was, "Boy, I sure did love the breakfast we had at school today!". I thought that was hilarious!!!
