Book Report - Sign to Learn

Everyone is talking about signing with infants.

Sign to Learn is the first complete introduction to appropriate sign language curriculum for young hearing preschoolers.

This is a unique resource that allows teachers to learn how to integrate American Sign Language (ASL) into their classrooms to enhance academic, social, and emotional development, as well as to introduce children respectfully to Deaf culture.

The book is written by Kirsten Dennis and Tressa Azpiri

I taught Faith some simple signs when she was a baby. I highly recommend doing this with infants. I was surprised by the criticisim I got from people saying that it would delay her speech. She knew about a dozen signs by the time she was 12 mos. Of course the two she used most were "eat" and "more." And her speech development? She asked her first question at 14 mos and there hasn't been much silence since - she even talks in her sleep!
