Katrina Families Find child Care Resources

ATLANTA, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bright from the Start:

Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and the Georgia Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (GACCRRA) are making it easier for evacuees in Georgia to find child care resources. Parents looking for a child care provider or other child care resources may call GACCRRA at 800-466-5681 or 877-228-3566.

"We and GACCRRA are working in cooperation with other state agencies, public and private child care providers, child care associations, Head Start, and other partners to identify Georgia's capacity to help the children impacted by Katrina and provide their families with a central source to find out about those resources," said Commissioner Marsha H. Moore, Bright from the Start.

Pam Runkle, President of GACCRRA, added "Georgia's Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies have listings of all of the licensed and registered child care programs in the state. We can help parents find child care in their new communities, and our parent counselors are standing by, ready to assist families in this difficult time."

GACCRRA is a membership organization composed of 14 regional Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (CCR&Rs) serving the entire state. The individual CCR&Rs receive funding from Bright from the Start. CCR&Rs serve as change agents in their communities improving the child care and family support systems.

Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is the state agency responsible for overseeing child care and educational services for Georgia's children ages birth through school age and their families and for administering nutrition programs for children and adults.
