Garden School Tattler

The girls were perfect today. Abby, who can do a pull up, was full of answers and questions, and additions to our lessons that made sense. She was also polite. Abby is one of those golden girls.

All our girls are aces. We don't have single girl who I wouldn't take home and keep. One of the things we are doing is the chorus in music. Four of the big girls are the echo chamber for our songs. These strong voices make up that chorus. And interestingly, Hadley who used to be very shy and is now a big part of the stand up comedian team, is a heavy in that chorus. The other girls are Peyton, Mayli and Alexa. They sound like the Shandells.

We sing a song called "Blessed Be the Lord" and the old "Battle Hymn of the Republic," and the girls have to echo us. They do a good job.

It was hot again today, and we tried to keep indoors as much as we could. I think everyone is looking forward to some cooler breezes and some outside yoga.

The kids love yoga. We stretch and balance and reach and bend and the kids think it's very neat. They actually should be flexible enough to put heads to knees as they sit and stand in several positions. Most have to bend a knee. We are trying to move from one pose to another with a little grace. Here's a position they think is great. Sit on the floor with your legs straight out. Pull your toes toward your head. Grab your toes with your fingers and with a straight back, lower the body from the waist up down until you are looking straight ahead at your toes.

We had lasagna today for lunch and it was a fifty fifty proposition. Dawson ate like a horse, Ty picked, the girls gobbled, the boys were divided. Poor Justin was lost. Most of the kids loved it, and others picked. But it was hot, so we chalked it up to a no eat day. We also served cottage cheese, bread, grapes, raisins, carrots, celery and milk. The winners of the least mess on the floor got a tootsie roll. Popsicles were served on the patio.

We listened to Vaughn Williams today and tried to imagine Johnny Appleseed leaving home and walking across the country, through the countryside as we listened. We heard him as a young man and as an older man.

Rachel taught science today.

Here's a note: If it's cold in the morning, remember it might be warm in the afternoon. Children need to wear shorts until the weather stays in the sixties.
