Toys and Lunch and GS Tattler

Today was a classic.

First, the good news - The toys have arrived! We are so excited. They will be delivered on Thursday, and we will plan a play day on Friday with lunch. Details posted at the school or call. Greg Waite said he has unloaded the toys, and they are really something. We are all thrilled with the work all our parents did to win this for us. Thank you so much. Your children will just treasure this experience.

We took the kids out to the Stay Alive House today. It was splendid. The kids were all very well behaved. We see the Knight Township fire guys so often, most of us are on first name and old joke status. Scott set the day, and he looks great. We watched a video on fire safety and we sang fire songs for the fire guys. We crawled out of a bedroom down a window ladder and spoke to a 911 operator who asked each of the kids questions they need to hear in case they need to call 911.

As a culmination of the experience, we got to crawl through a smoky house. Some of the kids were frightened, and some were thrilled and asked to go through the smoky maze twice. The children who were frightened went to stand with Miss Stacey, and when they say the more adventurous kids having a ball, they all decided to join the fun and every child crawled through the burning building - no fire, just smoke.

We had lunch at the playground and then came home through a very pretty country side. We thank Jeff Weber for coming along. He worked hard with the kids.

We had a visit from the welfare department today with a complaint from who we think is the theif. We turned the robbery and the video tape of the robbery over to the Sheriff's Department, and they took it from there, but apparently we are the culprits, and an erroneous complaint about the animals was issued to the welfare department, and they, by law, have to investigate. It is really so silly, it's hard to grasp that someone "thunk" that one up.

Garden School family interviews will follow. I am sorry for the inconvenience, and please feel free to use your judgment as to whether you want your child interviewed. It is your choice.

Maestro has been a part of the GS team for a long time. His worth is in his mousing ability. With all the field mice looking for a winter home, he is our best assault against them. We have had the very best pest man, Clint Perry, on record who has brought any number of mice removal kits, and Maestro's presence in the building is the best mouse proofer there is. He has never bitten anyone as far as I know. Some of you parents give him a run for his pride, but to date, I've never had a complaint.

As far as the rabbits go, they have been kept in the pet room for a while now. We don't let them out any more, and haven't for a long time. If anyone has a complaint about the animals, please see me. We have these animals for the children, and if there is a problem, we need to know.

Lots of the children are getting their first glimpse of what it means to have a pet at the Garden School. Caring for something smaller than self is often a real pleasure to the kids. They like to feed carrots to the rabbits and sometimes take a cookie in. Rabbits love cookies.

All in all it was a beautiful day and the kids were very good.

Our next field trip is October 27. We will be going to the Pumpkin Patch.
