Garden School Tattler

What a beautiful day. It was a splendid day for a Monday. I was impressed by the children's good behavior with some exceptions.

The weather report: sunny with a few manageable storm clouds. It was foggy this morning, but the fog cleared about noon.

We had breakfast on the patio, had a short circle time, and then settled into a regular day. Monday is drawing lesson day, so I am guessing all the children took home a drawing today.

Tuesday is painting day, so expect a painting tomorrow.

Wednesday is colored paper or construction day.

Thursday is clay or tactile day.

Friday is fine arts day.

This is really important for the children because art is a lively expression that needs to be a regular part of a child's life. When art is neglected by a teacher, it means the teacher is not eager to let a child experience expressing himself.

We had lunch outdoors picnic style as well. We had hot dogs with cheese. Actually, the cheese is the most important part of the main course. We had tater tots, apples and bananas and a green salad, milk and condiments. It was nearly all eaten.

Lunch for young children is a matter of balance. What WILL they eat as opposed to what SHOULD they eat. We usually have three children's lunches with an extra protein, and two adult lunches to teach children about adult food, like roast turkey and roast pork and lasagna.

We played with the new toys after lunch. The children liked some of them more than others. They conquered the Buckeroo toy and made some attempts at the kinexts.

So far the kinesthetic toys have been the favorites.

We played outside and had apples and left overs for snack.

I just love talking to the parents, and today I was able to spend some time with some favorites. Thanks for making our day splendid.
